Jesus Christ, Our Savior

"Jesus Christ, Our Savior"

Lyrics

Jesus Christ, Our Savior

Verse 1
Jesus Christ, our Savior
Brought us hope into the world
A babe laid in a manger
A prophecy fulfilled
There were shepherds in the fields
And angels all around
Glory came from heaven
A King that would astound

Verse 2
Fully God, yet human
Jesus walked upon the earth
Through parables and preaching
Christ’s ministry was birthed
Power and authority
Were given and proclaimed
Yet the people doubted
And Jesus was betrayed

Verse 3
Jesus Christ, our Savior
Was rejected and despised
The people hid their faces
And never realized
God had given them a King
To set all people free
Majesty escaped them
For they did not believe

Verse 4
Stricken and afflicted
Christ was ridiculed and mocked
And like a lamb for slaughter
Christ hung upon the cross
Oh, the suffering of the one
Whose blood has made us whole
Pierced for our transgressions
Forgiveness for each soul

Verse 5
We, like sheep, have wandered
And we’ve often strayed too far
But Jesus claims our wounds and
Erases every scar
What a gift God’s given us
If only we believe
Jesus is our Savior
For all eternity

About this Hymn:  My desire in writing this hymn was to portray and capture the essence of our Savior's life.  When singing this hymn, it takes us on a journey of the life of Jesus.  The final verse reminds us that although we are not perfect, we can receive God's gift of salvation and eternal life by believing and accepting Christ as our Lord and Savior.
